The more I think about Mario being transmasc, the more I’m getting some dumb small ideas.

Like imagine him saying he needs a new name but needs something he’ll be sure to remember, only for Luigi to jokingly say he should call himself “Mario” that way he wouldn’t forget (since it’s their last name), and Mario immediately goes “Luigi you’re a genius !”, taking the suggestion 100% seriously.

Or Mario being hesitant to bring it up with Pauline because that’s his lesbian gf and he likes being with her but Luigi reminds him that he can’t spend the rest of his life lying to himself just for this relationship, plus there could be other small issues that made Mario and Pauline consider that maybe they’re better off as friends. In the end, Pauline is very accepting and the two remain close friends; also Pauline would probably support Mario throughout his transition, while Mario would start playing wingman for her if anybody new catches her eye.

Also, before Mario came out, Pauline going around with what she thinks to be her cool small chubby butch gf. <3

And going back to Mario figuring himself out, him starting to cut his hair and halfway through grabbing a razor he decides to ask for Luigi’s help before he does something stupid with his hair. Luigi puts that razor down and cuts + helps styling Mario’s hair like his. On that note, Luigi teaching Mario how to groom his eventual mustache.

Sometime after going into the Mushroom Kingdom, Mario realizing he needs HRT and awkwardly tries to bring it up to Peach. Cue Mario discovering how gender works with Toads (and being low-key relieved how easy getting HRT will be as a result).

Also when Mario brings it up to Peach she’s like “oh so humans are like Koopas !” (note that I see Peach as a Toad whose appearance is due to her gem + Toads have no concept of male or female, hence humans being closer to Koopas in that regard).

Cue a similar talk later on about the differences when it comes to reproduction with Mario being very awkward talking about it and using the first opportunity when Peach brings up Koopas to say “yes, exactly like Koopas !” happy he doesn’t have to explain further.

Also also the first time they meet Daisy and the topic of dating comes up Mario says he has an ex who he broke up with because she only likes girls, awkwardly hinting that he’s trans. Cue Daisy gushing about how she went through the same path of discovering who you are in early adulthood rather than teenagerhood (Prince Haru’s design is Daisy before transitioning, I mean come on).

Not sure what his deadname would be but for this one I really want to go with “completely different and unrelated name”. And yeah I guess it could fit for him to have an “M” already and change its significance, but at the same time I could definitely see him have a different letter and when he comes out one of his parents make a new hat with an “M” on it, something along those lines.

Minor spoilers for a cutscene in Mario + Rabbids DLC The Last Spark Hunter :

Unpopular shipping headcanons/opinions for Sam and Max:

- I don’t particularly dislike Sybil and Abe being together, though it’s mostly because I’m not very into their relationship. Hell I keep forgetting Abe exists whenever I make a list of all characters (ngl he’s pretty forgettable 😅). Also the “dysfunctional straight couple” trope is a thing I’m very used to, mostly because like 90% of movies/TV shows/etc use it, so while I agree that Sybil deserves better, their relationship doesn’t bother me.

- Likewise, I don’t ship Sybil with Superball because I don’t find them to be very compatible. Idk, I feel like Sybil wants a man who gives her time and attention, like she kinda has that idea of what a perfect relationship is like. While Superball on the other hand is a lot more career-focused and to-the-point when talking. Plus, I’m not sure if Sybil can get used to the way Superball expresses his emotions differently.

- While I wouldn’t say that I ship it, if I had to pair Superball with anybody, it would be with Mama Bosco. Not only because they’re both career-focused but also because we know Mama Bosco wants a man who treats her as a person and doesn’t drool all around her, and I feel like Superball can give her that. Again, idk. I just think they have the potential for good chemistry ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

And if you want shipping arguments coming from the game, there’s not a lot to go by but it’s worth noting that in 204, when asking Superball if he saw Mama Bosco, he comments that he admired her spirit, and in 305 Mama Bosco is the only one going after Superball when he runs away crying. It’s also implied that they have some offscreen interactions in 301.

- I don’t ship Sameth and Maximus due to the fact that, if they were to be a couple while still having their wives and kids, then their children would technically be step-siblings. And if you go down the family line a bit, it technically makes Sam and Max cousins, which is a bit of a yikes for me.

Btw no hate whatsoever to the people who ship them, I 100% understand why you would, and the line “you could do with some female company. I hate to say it but people are beginning to talk” definitely says a lot about those two and their relationship. It’s just that I overthink the implications of their relationship and it makes me uncomfortable.

That being said, I do like the idea of them being both queer. And given that they lived in the late 1800s and early 1900s, I could definitely see a scenario of both of them being into guys and maybe even finding each other attractive, but they never realized those feelings, they just assumed every guy found other guys attractive.

- The Narrator/Superego has feelings for Sam. After all, he’s Max.

- Max doesn’t just have a crush on Hugh Bliss, he was genuinely in love with the guy (I swear Telltale Max is the reason why I see both him and Sam as poly) and would’ve asked Sam for his permission to ask Hugh out had the whole moon situation happened a few months later.

And if you’re asking, Hugh Bliss doesn’t give a shit about Max, though he possibly realized Max liked him and used it to his advantage (that scene when he separates Max’s bliss has him drop Max’s defense by sweet-talking to him).

(Also Max is genuinely in love with Flint Paper as well, just like Sam is, but that’s not an unpopular headcanon)

- Sam is omnisexual because why not. I mean given the world they live in, “being in love with people regardless of gender while still acknowledging said gender” fits Sam pretty well.

- Despite not being straight, Sam is uncomfortable with dating anything other than women. This is due to him growing up in the 70s on top of seeing Max getting heavily bullied for not showing attraction to women. And given how insecure Sam can be, especially Telltale Sam, I could see him prefer to date women, though there are some exceptions like Max obviously but also his admiration for Flint, which he doesn’t hide. And given the dialogue about finding Peppers sexy, I could definitely see him be comfortable talking about his attraction for men with Max specifically.

- While I tend to call Max gay due to being more focused on the Telltale trilogy, I’d argue that any other media outside of Telltale show Max as aromantic homosexual. And because I feel like explaining :

  • In the comics, Max’s romantic life is never brought up. We just know that he doesn’t like girls and have played in stag movies, which are aimed at a male audience. Btw him being a sex worker has nothing to do with his sexuality, as dating life and sex experience have nothing to do with one’s sexuality. That being said him working for a male audience means that he either wanted men to look at him, or he wanted men to focus less on him (by looking at the women instead).
  • In “Hit the Road”, Max shows some disgust about Bruno’s relationship with Trixie and there’s yet again the “doesn’t like girls” joke. But at the same time there’s a few romantic jokes between him and Sam, showing that Max gravitates towards men.
  • In “This Time it’s Virtual”, the only hint of Max’s sexuality is the corndog joke, hinting a sexual liking for men. Max is also yet again shown at the entrance of the tunnel of love to find romance gross.
  • In the Cartoon, Max is straight-up afraid of romance, but yet again he’s hinted to be in a relationship with Sam who he’s implied to have sex with (bonus mention for Cartoon Max being the most explicitly a masochist), plus shows some interest for Mack Salmond and his sidekick.

So overall, Max barely ever talks about romance and when he does it’s in a negative light. At the same time, he’s shown to have a consistent interest for men, but most of it is through sex jokes (his interest for Mack Salmond could also be seen as more sexual than romantic, at least I think ?). It’s also worth pointing out that aro people can date, hence his relationship with Sam.

Tbh “Sam and Max are in a queerplatonic relationship” is probably the truest canon statement regarding their relationship given how it’s presented as an incredibly strong friendship that “transcends the notions of marriage and dating”.

So yeah, while Telltale Max is very explicitly gay and is even shown to enjoy the concept of romance to some degree (he gets involved in Sybil’s relationship and by the end of S2 cares more about it than Sam does), the other versions of his character seem to be more likely on the aro spectrum, especially the Cartoon version.

Have a doc filled with Mario headcanons and wanted to share the sexualities part because fuck it, it’s still pride month.

Disclaimer since it’s relevant to this post : I headcanon that Peach, Daisy, Wario and Waluigi are all creatures from the world of the Mushroom Kingdom who look the way they do due to magic gems (those blue and green gems that Peach and Daisy have respectively). Peach is a Toad, Daisy is a Dino-Rhino (unless those flower people from Mario Bros acid trip Wonder are from her Kingdom, then again I like Daisy being a giant cool Dino, plus the trailer for Wonder showed several other big animals), not sure for Wario and Waluigi but they’re not humans. The Super Crown works the way it does because there’s one of those gems in it.

Also, since it’s briefly mentioned, what I call the “main” continent is made out of the Mushroom, Koopa, Bomb-omb, Thwomp, and Goomba kingdoms. Sarasaland (retconned into Flower Kingdom now ?) and other kingdoms are on other continents (yes I know in Superstar Saga the Beanbean kingdom is neighbors with the Mushroom. But since they never appear in other games, I’ve chosen to ignore that detail).

Anyways, onto the headcanons :

I love how. If Linda asked. Literally anybody else in the entire tri-state area everybody would have said "Yeah, your boys built that." I feel like some would have proof, maybe pictures or a video.

HER HUSBAND KNEW

IKR?!?! LIKE LITERALLY-

If he went tuple to Lawrence, said soemhting baout the boys' imaginations he would have been like "?? They're not imaging it, I've been on the carpet they made it fly" and shed just laugh like "all you boys are so silly :) I love that about you ♡" asdfghjkl

I legit just watched an episode that OPENED with Phineas and Ferb telling their mom TO HER FACE "yeah Candace is right, we built an elevator to the moon, check out the moon rocks we brought back!" and she AND THEIR FATHER WHO WE HAVE ESTABLISHED HAS SEEN THEIR SHIT went "haha oh u kids and ur imaginations :) "

And the whole ep was Candace trying to get back a CD with video of their escapades and the boys legit helped her the whole time! Like "Hell yeah mom'll love it, plus it'll make Candace happy so win-win :)) " (like actually why does Candace even wanna bust them damn)

But anyway the boys don't even try to hide their cool shit! They would LOVE for their mom to see it! They have actively tried to show it to her a couple of times!

I think the other thing that makes Candace work in the show is that she’s actually right!  She’s not trying to bust them because she doesn’t like them, or wants them to get grounded.  Her brothers are performing wildly dangerous activities and the rest of the world just seems to be okay with it.  The reason she wants to bust the boys is to protect them.

It’s also why her “bust the boys” drive tends to drop if they’re mostly doing something comparatively harmless.  So if they’ve opened a platypus themed restaurant, then her main goal is just to get to cut the line because it’s set up in her backyard.  On the other hand if their plan for the day is “build a roller coaster, but this time as a musical” well the last time they did that the roller coaster left the atmosphere!  That is inherently dangerous!

It’s why you can root for Candace even as she’s doomed to fail, because at heart she’s still a good character trying to do good things.

I know! I always want her to finally bust them, so they can be safe. I'm not a mother, except to my geese, but I feel so scared when they do things!! I know they can do it, have done similar things, and are awesome- but I get spooked.

It's just. Scary.

Candace wants to keep her brothers safe, but everybody else seems to think they can do it. That they ARE safe. But candace just wants them to stop building crazy dangerous things and be normal kids and do safe little activities.

I didnt realize this until the 3rd season, and then I thought back to every episode and I felt like it really added more depth to her character. It ads a layer of understanding and then you're like "Oh, well, that makes sense. That's why she wants to bust them!" (I might be analyzing a kids show too much. Oof) but yeah! I agree ^^

i love the way that milo murphy's law treats time travel

that being "eh, whatever". cuz sometimes things have always happened the way they did, and sometimes the past just changes, or the timeline splits, and things apear out of a paradox like that peach and the note.

also sometimes things dissapear after the timeline was fixed, and sometimes they stay, and there is no real pattern to it

Thinking about Peach’s tendency to jump in without a plan if someone else is in danger, even if it’s someone she doesn’t know or even dislikes.

Footage : Super Paper Mario ; Mario 3D World ; Mario Tennis Aces ; Super Princess Peach

Because I’m still mad he was in the concept art but didn’t make it into the 2023 movie, here’s how I would’ve written Toadsworth had he been included :

- Obviously he replaces that one blue Toad with the glasses

- When Peach declares she’s going to the Kong Kingdom, have him give a speech that’s similar to the one at the beginning of Super Princess Peach, with him commenting that while he trusts her abilities, he doesn’t want her to go on her own as it could be too dangerous, even for her

- Use that last point as one of the reasons why she would have Mario go with her, especially since her and Mario meeting happens right after she leaves the conference room

- As she’s about to embark on the journey, maybe have her say a cute goodbye to Toadsworth, maybe ever as a way to showcase her strong bond with the Toads, since a big chunk of her character is how the Toads raised her, leading her to be protective of them

- Have him in the flashback sequence, maybe not as the one who found her but definitely have a flashback showing them together in a father/daughter sort of way

- When she comes back on her bike to announce they lost the army, despite the current tension/urgency of the scene, maybe have Toadsworth run in to hug her, just taking a second of relief from seeing her back home safe before she tells everyone in the castle to go hide

- Have Toadsworth beg Peach to come into hiding, with her saying she will after making sure everyone evacuated ; then, once she’s alone in the room (minus Toad), have her mutter something like “Sorry Toadsworth” before going in to confront Bowser ; again, this could tie-in with the Toads raising her hence why they are protective of her the same way she is to them

- Not sure if there’s any other scenes where he could be here, since the other Toads don’t show up past that point, and even with the previous moments in mind he wouldn’t be important enough to be in the ending :/

Now, are those ideas perfect ? Not really. Admittedly, it would put Toadsworth in a very awkward spot where he’s rather important due to his connection with Peach, which would get reinforced on several occasions, all the while having little to no purpose in the plot, thus making the already clunky pacing of the movie even worse.

I think the main issue would be that he’d have no proper introduction, he’d just be there and have a connection with Peach for some reason. So even if those scenes would be cute, you’d be sitting there like “why do we care about that guy again ?”

But honestly, at this point I just wish he was in the movie. Even if his personality was the exact same as that blue Toad (which would be OOC since he’s a bit of an helicopter parent), I would have taken it.
